Important but not in my control.
That's my summary of the recent events in the USA.
The attempt on Trump's life is important. Biden dropping out and making room for another nominee is important. These events altered the US political path of the next few months, the prevalent conversations in political circles, and some argue, the outcome of the next presidential term.
And, these events are totally out of my control. They out of your control, too.
All I can do is observe and acknowledge.
These moments are ones of significant cultural significance, merging or dividing the country as the people choose to come together to work through difficult times or push against one another. And although I am not a resident, US policies have a direct impact on the people around me where I live (Canada being a resource based and export oriented country). It's an important piece of my life's puzzle. Heck, my dad is a US Air Force Veteran,
Can I do anything about what has happened? No.
But what I, we, can do is acknowledge and sit in curiosity and listening It's not the first time a country has gone through tumultuous times and it will not be the last. Empires have grown and fallen before, and somehow, after all the turmoil, people still come together in the evenings to eat and play music. And a few hundred years later, write docuseries shows that stream on Netflix.
Remember that this is just a small blip. What's more important and in our individual control is how we are with the people around us. How we respond to challenges. What we eat. Where we choose to work. Who we choose to spend time with.
And the fact that I need to go find some feta cheese for a salad.
